Red Cross Helped Firefighters
Time after time - rain or shine, The American Red Cross continues its emergency response efforts in Monmouth and Ocean County. Just last week, as the beloved Memory Lanes Bowling Alley in Shrewsbury fell victim to a raging fire (that was ultimately safely extinguished in a massive "surround and drown" effort by multiple fire houses in our area); the Red Cross-Jersey Coast Chapter (based in Tinton Falls) dispatched its own Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) to the scene. ERVs allow Red Cross volunteers to quickly provide a variety of services to individuals providing mutual aid in situations just like these.
In the massive rainstorm, The Jersey Coast-Red Cross Disaster Response Team took care of the over 200 working professional and volunteer firefighters, local police officers and EMTs by partnering with local food retailers Wawa and The Wind Mill to provide hot dogs, hamburgers and soup along with plenty of water, Gatorade and snacks for free.
Fires have a devastating effect on our community business, and Friday serves as a tremendous reminder for us to support those who help support our emergency workers.
