Tinton Falls / Perth Amboy, NJ - The Jersey Coast Chapter of The American Red Cross is set for smooth sailing in the upcoming July 17th -19th weekend as the Raritan Yacht Club in Perth Amboy hosts the 63rd Annual Red Grant Regatta. This all-weekend sailing competition event is full of festivities. With people calling Red Grant the "can't-miss sailing weekend event" in New Jersey, the competition is sure to thrill boat owners and spectators alike.
With two racing circles, at least four "One Design" classes, and multiple handicapped racing starts, the Red Grant for Red Cross Regatta will provide competitive racing for all sailors. For sailors more interested in racing with a more fun slant, the Mayor's Cup Cruiser's Race on Saturday gives participants the opportunity to support a great regatta for a great cause. The weekend also includes a junior regatta where over 60 area junior sailors will compete off the Perth Amboy shoreline. There is also a food pairing and wine tasting with Barbara Anne Hay from Ocean Wine and Spirits, in parallel with a silent auction, on Friday night, tickets are $50 per person. Log onto http://www.redgrant.org/ for full event details for both the novice sailor and experts alike.
"Along with being the largest regatta in New Jersey by two-fold, throughout the years, Red Grant has raised more money for charities than any other club event. This year, we are proud to announce that the New Jersey Coast Chapter of the Red Cross will be the deserving beneficiary of this regatta weekend," says Doug Stryker, the 2009 Red Grant Regatta Co-Chair. He, along with his wife and Co-Chair Amy added, "Plus, we just thought that Red Grant for Red Cross just has a great ring to it!"
In addition to competing in one of the state's premier sailing events, participation in the Red Grant for Red Cross Regatta will ensure participants support to the world's largest humanitarian organization -- the American Red Cross. Proceeds from the silent auction and the Mayor's Cup Cruiser's Race will benefit the Jersey Coast Regional Chapter, which delivers relief to thousands of victims in the state of New Jersey. Funds raised will help provide blood to a premature baby in the middle of the night, provide comfort to a family who has lost everything to a house fire, train and certify lifeguards who keep our families safe, and teach CPR to someone who may save the life of a loved one.
"As a sailor and devoted member of the Red Cross, I am excited see the partnership between one of the United States' most historic yacht clubs with The Jersey Coast Chapter of The American Red Cross," says Jane Gutshall from the ARC. "Our Red Cross Regional Chapter's continuous promotion of water safety and preparedness training is a natural fit with the sport of sailing."
