Red Cross Young Adults Strive to Save Lives

Jersey Coast Chapter Youth Council to Host Blood Drive

TINTON FALLS, January 4, 2011 – Young adults learn to become future leaders of tomorrow by taking on responsibilities early-on in their lives. The Jersey Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross has 130 future leaders of tomorrow in their volunteer youth council ranging from ages 11-17 that are willing and eager to make a difference in the world. On Monday, January 10, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. the Jersey Coast Chapter youth council will be hosting their 7th annual blood drive at the American Red Cross Regional Office at 1540 West Park Avenue in Tinton Falls in an effort to save lives.

The chapter youth council does all the work and preparation that goes into organizing the blood drive themselves. Chaired by 17 year old Diane Scavelli of Colts Neck and co-chaired by Zach Porter, 16 of Manalapan – the youth council has set a goal to collect 70 pints of blood, which can save the lives of 210 people in our local communities of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The youth council has been advertising the blood drive and urging members of the community to come out and help them in their stride to save lives. Blood constantly needs to be replenished; for every pint of blood collected, up to three people’s lives can be saved.

Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls will be sponsoring and supporting the youth council blood drive. Presenting donors on January 10th will be entered into a drawing to win an American Express Gift Card provided by Garden State Veterinary Specialists. Anyone 17 years of age or older in general good health is eligible to donate, and 16 years of age with parental consent.
