Red Cross 2010 Charity Gala Proves Successful in Honoring Local Humanitarians

Tinton Falls, NJ, May 27, 2010 – The Jersey Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross hosted the 27th annual Charity Gala: A Sentimental Journey, on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the majestic Convention Hall in Asbury Park. The evening was unlike any other Gala that had been done in the past. Your local Red Cross went back to their military roots and held a grand celebration, honoring several humanitarians from within our own community.

Marilyn Schlossbach of Normandy Beach, a local restaurateur and philanthropist in Asbury Park, Bud Lomell of Toms River, a World War II hero best known for his courageous efforts on D-Day, the City of Asbury Park presented by our head sponsor, Liberty Natural Gas Company, each received the Clara Barton Humanitarian Award for their philanthropic endeavors. New Jersey Natural Gas received an award for the generous donations that they make to our local Chapter and to the international relief efforts. Each honoree encompasses the true meaning of the word “humanitarian” in the eyes of the Red Cross.

The event itself conveyed a new feel to all who attended. The ambiance of the night added to the Sentimental Journey theme, in going back to the organization’s military roots. Convention Hall was full of Red Cross and World War II memorabilia, dating back to the 1940s. “This year’s Gala was very successful and monumental for the Jersey Coast Chapter. Not only did we honor several humanitarians within our community, but we also brought a new flavor to this year’s event. It was an extraordinary evening for all and we thank everyone who was involved,” said Tara Kelly, CEO of the Jersey Coast Chapter.
