“Team Red” Looks to Cross the Finish Line for the First Time

The Jersey Coast Region Participates in the NJ Marathon

TINTON FALLS, NJ, February 2011 – Proudly sport the American Red Cross logo for “Team Red,” and run or walk the New Jersey Marathon Festival on May 1, 2011. For the first time ever, the Red Cross will be forming their own team with all funds raised going directly to your local American Red Cross to continue serving their communities through disaster relief, blood donations, CPR education and communications between military and their families. Over 70,000 people come from all over the country to participate in the New Jersey Marathon, which is also a qualifying race for larger marathons around the country.

“We are looking for individuals that can participate and raise funds for the full marathon, half marathon and half marathon relay,” said Melissa DeGennaro, spokeswoman for the Jersey Coast Chapter. Run for “Team Red,” and you will be guaranteed a spot in the marathon and the entrance fee of $110.00 will be waived as long as runners raise a minimum fee which will be donated to the American Red Cross. “The Red Cross goes the distance every day to help those along the Jersey Coast and this is the public’s opportunity to go the distance for this amazing organization by raising much needed funds to support the great things Red Cross does for the community,” said DeGennaro.

Individuals, corporations, companies and schools are urged to get involved with this opportunity all while helping out a great cause. Free e-coaching, a pre-race pasta dinner, “Team Red,” runner’s shirt, VIP entry into the Red Cross hospitality tent on race day and tons of giveaways will be made available to those who sign up to run for red.
