Message from the CEO

As Thanksgiving approaches, family and friends will gather together to give thanks for their blessings this past year. Every 60 seconds, the mission of the American Red Cross touches 250 people and becomes one of their blessings:

200 times a day
American Red Cross volunteers help a family who lost everything in a house fire or other disaster.

475 times a day
The Red Cross connects deployed service members with their families.

19,000 times a day
Someone outside the US receives urgent care following a disaster from the Red Cross and our partners.

21,000 times a day,
Someone receives a blood transfusion from a Red Cross donor.

43,000 times a day
Another person receives life-saving Red Cross health, safety and preparedness training.

290,000 times a day
A child receives a measles vaccination from the Red Cross and our partners.

The American Red Cross looks back this year and gives thanks for you! To you, who gave so generously of your time, energy and spirit. To you, our financial donors, who enable us to effectively carry out our mission to provide relief to families in the middle of the night who lose everything to a fire. To you, our blood donors, who will never get to meet the woman, man or child whose life you saved. You are our blessing and good fortune, and because of you we get to change lives, one at a time, everyday.

Together, we collectively make up the heart and soul of the American Red Cross. My hope is that as you count all your blessings this Thanksgiving with the people who mean the most to you, this letter will serve as a reminder of the 250 people every 60 seconds who count you as theirs.

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving, and know that you have truly made a positive difference this year.

With Deepest Gratitude,

Tara F. Kelly
CEO
