Red Cross continues Service to the Armed Forces with live Veteran Memorial Celebration

Please join The American Red Cross Jersey Coast Chapter at AristiCare at Whiting, 23 Schoolhouse Road in Whiting, N.J. this Wednesday, November 4th from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m as Manchester Whiting Mayor Michael Fressola delivers a speech ceremony honoring locally military veterans in preparation for the upcoming and celebrated Veterans Day.

Red Cross and AristaCare were inspired to produce this special event in honor of the upcoming Veterans Day 11/11 celebration; sharing the feeling that it is our community’s moral responsibility to show gratitude to the ever dwindling “greatest generation”. Carol Cohen, Director of Health & Safety for the American Red Cross is thrilled to be a part of this special ceremony designed to recognize our young men and women who have now grown up to become grandparents and great grandparents, who have risked their lives to ensure and preserve the freedoms that we all enjoy today. Our veterans have dedicated their talent and years, and many times - even their lives for values that we hold so dear. “To have the chance to mingle with veterans from all walks of military life, in an Army-mess tent, canteen-style atmosphere with the music from the 1940’s in the air”, says Carol Cohen, “is inspiring and I invite everyone to take this chance to join the Red Cross in Whiting to honoring our Veterans.”

There will be two outstanding individuals honored for their personal contributions. One is an accomplished United States Army Veteran awarded with both silver and bronze stars, two purple hearts, the combat infantry badge, and a presidential unit citation. The other honoree is a US Navy Nurse that represents all of the nurses who cared for our wounded. She contributes her specialty to the Whiting area on a regular basis as she did from 1942-1945.

As both the Red Cross and AristaCare are involved in healthcare and disaster relief we have a special appreciation for the contribution that our nurses have made. If not for their efforts the casualties of war would have been so much more severe. Presenting one of the awards is the chairman of the Mayors Veterans Advisory Committee, Donald Czekanski. The event will also feature the color guard from the McGuire Air Force base. The Whiting community has embraced this occasion as indicated by the large response we have received and the number of volunteers from the community that have offered their services. It is truly heartwarming to our veterans to see how loved and appreciated they are by their community. From communicating messages during emergencies to outreach to the National Guard and Reserves, to Veterans assistance and military hospitals visits, The Red Cross Jersey Coast Chapter provides vital services. Aristicare, a family of premier nursing and rehab facilities (AristaCare at Alameda Center, AristaCare at Cedar Oaks, AristaCare at Norwood Terrace, and AristaCare at Meadow Springs) is considered to be on the forefront of cutting-edge, state-of-the-art healthcare and many of their residents have served in the military. In times of crisis and war, the American Red Cross has historically been there to provide support to the men and women of the United States and their families. The two organizations have come together and have much in store. Take a peek at the vintage Red Cross Donut Dollies enjoy raffle prizes and military salutes. Participate in a Pledge of Allegiance and Flag Raising Ceremony and a performance of the Star-Spangled Banner, followed by a 21-gun salute. Support the Red Cross and join us at AristaCare to celebrate these individuals in preparation for the November 11 Veterans Day.
